18-5-2014, Assen (the Netherlands)

Fabio Massei has won this weekend’s Desmoquattro race during the famous Ducati Club Race at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands. The Italian had a very good start on the Ducati 1199 Panigale R and dominated the rest of the race, set the fastest lap and won by 13 seconds. A special and historic win as it was the first victory for the EAB Racing Team since the switch to Ducati last winter. Massei’s team mate, Alex Schacht, finished in second after an intense battle with regular Dutch Superbike contender Nigel Walraven on the Ducati 1199 Panigale and scored his first podium in 2014. Massei and Schacht dominated all practice sessions and qualifying also as they started respectively from pole position and second place on the impressive Desmoquattro grid.

Fabio Massei: “It was a very special weekend. Of course because of the win but the Ducati Club Race is a one of kind event that you have to visit at least once in your life. It was great to be together with so many Ducatisti and we have had a lot of fun. To win in front of all this fans was very good and I’m happy to give my team the first victory and I'm happy as well with the second place of Alex. Also the weather was fantastic and completely different than some weeks ago during the World Superbike event. My confidence after the second place at Imola during the European Superstock 1000 championship and this victory is very good so I’m really looking forward to the European Superstock 1000 race at Misano. Many thanks to my team as they gave me once more a perfect Ducati 1199 Panigale R. And thanks to the Ducati Club from the Netherlands for this great opportunity.”

Alex Schacht: “It was a very good weekend for us and for the team. We were all relaxed and just enjoying to ride and the weather. Three days of sun; I think I’ve never seen this before at Assen. The event was very good although there were many riders on the track. But next year I’m going again, that’s for sure. The next few weeks I'm going to train hard for Misano to be ready for the next European Superstock 1000 race.”

Manuel Cappelletti (team manager): “It was my first visit to the Ducati Club Race. Before I heard a lot of great stories and they are all true! We are of course very happy with the results of both Alex and Fabio after the successful weekend at Imola.  This shows again that we have made the right choice this winter. But it was also great to meet this weekend all the Dutch Ducatisti. And I can guarantee that there are many! Special thanks to Piero Cossu of Race Pro for the support in this event, it was great Piero.”
